New maps show when snow could blast UK as Met Office issues storm warning
The UK is set for a cold weekend as temperatures plummet following an “Indian summer” which saw mercury rise to 24C – with snow on the horizon.
The Met Office has predicted a sharp drop this weekend after an unseasonal October saw the warmest temperatures in over five years.
New weather maps show snow could hit the Scottish mountains this weekend, with temperatures in the area plummeting to -1C in parts.
Meanwhile, the rest of the UK will also see a sharp drop, with highs of just 12C expected on Sunday in London.
The national weather agency has also issued a yellow weather warning for rain from 6am today until 6pm this evening, stating: “Heavy rain is likely to cause some disruption to travel. he heaviest rain is expected to be across Wales on Wednesday, with some central and southern parts of England and Wales potentially having a very wet day on Friday.

“Further north, there will be some sunshine, but also some showers, which will turn heavier, more frequent later in the week and, as colder conditions become established from the north, some snow is likely for Scottish mountains.
“All parts of the UK will turn much cooler by the weekend, with daytime temperatures potentially up to 10C colder than earlier this week across southern England. The first widespread overnight frost of the season is also likely across many central and northern areas over the weekend.”
According to weather maps, snow could hit Scotland in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, October 15.
The long-range forecast from the Met Office for this Sunday, also mentioned “the possibility of hail and thunderstorms, as well as snow on higher ground”.

Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said: “A wet evening and a wet night into Thursday morning. But clearer skies further north that will allow temperatures to dip to single figures and close to freezing across rural spots.
“So Northern Ireland could see lowest temperature around minus one degree Celsius. The glens of Scotland perhaps down to around zero.”
Forecasters say daytime temperatures will plunge by up to 10C, and BBC weather predicts a striking 15C drop between day and night.
This will also spark the first widespread overnight frost of the season across many central and northern areas over the weekend.
British Weather Service meteorologist Jim Dale also confirmed the slip in temperatures – with sea temperatures cooling.
He told Express.co.uk: “There will be some cold nights and some frosty mornings with some limited Scottish mountain snow. It will be normality for a time.
“There is a marked sea-change, and obviously it will be colder the further north one goes – but chilly conditions will prevail everywhere after tomorrow.”
