The current US president has been blaming the US’ lack of preparation on Obama, by lashing out at his predecessor with accusations of criminal activity, which he calls “Obamagate”.

Obama criticised the US administration’s lack of preparedness for the pandemic on Saturday, in a live-streamed video for a university.

President Trump has responded to the former presidents accusations by saying he was a “grossly incompetent” leader.

On the White House daily briefing on Sunday, he said: “Look, he was an incompetent president, that’s all I can say.

“Grossly incompetent.”

Barack Obama said in his comments on Show Me Your Walk, HBCU edition, that the US response has been disastrous.

He said: “More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing.

“A lot them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”

Trump also spoke about how he felt the US has handled the coronavirus pandemic, with an upbeat tone about progress.

He said: “I think we had a great weekend.

“We did a lot of terrific meetings.

“Tremendous progress is being made on many fronts, including coming up with a cure for this horrible plague that has beset our country.

“It was a working weekend, it was a good weekend.

“A lot of very good things have happened.”

President Trump has been stoking the fires of the “Obamagate” conspiracy as the November election draws closer.

In a pre-taped interview with Fox Business that aired on Sunday, Trump doubled down on his “Obamagate” narrative, discussing at length his suspicions over the Obama administration’s handling of the criminal case against General Michael Flynn.

Gen. Flynn, Trump’s former national security advisor, pled guilty in December 2017 to charges that he lied to the FBI about his communications with Russia’s ambassador at the time.

He said: “If I were a Democrat instead of a Republican, I think everybody would have been in jail a long time ago.

“This was all Obama, this was all Biden.

“These people are corrupt, this whole thing is corrupt.”

The US is the worst hit country in the world from COVID-19, with 1,527,352 confirmed cases.

It’s death toll is also the highest worldwide, with 90,973 losing their lives to the virus.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is now estimating that there will be nearly 135,000 deaths in the United States through the beginning of August.

This is more than double what it forecast on April 17, when it estimated 60,308 deaths by August 4.
