Tourists ask if Diana still lives with Charles at Kensington Palace on visits
June 25, 2021
Staff at Kensington Palace have shared some of the most bizarre questions they are asked by tourists – including whether the late Princess Diana still lives there.
The Princess of Wales brought up her sons Prince William and Prince Harry at the historic royal property in London.
She tragically died in a car crash in 1997 and William now lives there with his wife Kate Middleton and children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Part of Kensington Palace now features a public museum where anyone can visit and have a look at Diana’s amazing wardrobe.
But, bizarrely, staff are sometimes asked whether she still lives there.
Appearing on Channel 5’s new documentary, Kensington Palace: Behind Closed Doors, one of the employees said: “Probably the craziest question I’ve ever had was if Charles and Diana still lived in apartments at Kensington Palace and this was about two months ago.”
And it turns out there are plenty of other visitors who have a rather skewed recollection of history.
Another member of staff said: “We did have a visitor ask if Victoria was the current Queen.”
Among the outfits that visitors can look at is the late mum-of-two’s infamous midnight blue velvet gown that she wore in a performance with Grease actor John Travolta at the White House in 1985.
While Diana is perhaps the most famous of residents of Kensington Palace, the property has actually belonged to the Royal Family for more than 300 years.
During that time, Queen Victoria spent her childhood in the grand palace.
It also had a reputation as a party palace before becoming a family home, with Princess Margaret often hosting big social events at the iconic venue.
Harry and wife Meghan Markle also lived at the Palace, before moving into Frogmore Cottage in 2019.
They have since moved over the pond to Montecito in California as they set up lives for themselves away from the Royal Family.
