Teenager lost for two days in the Canadian wilderness found safe

A teen hiker has been found safe and sound after getting going missing in the Canadian wilderness.

Esther Wang became separated from her group while hiking along the Golden Ears Park’s East Canyon trail, a popular tourist attraction in British Colombia, reports The Daily Express US.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Esther Wang’s friends were unable to find her, with group leaders alerting authorities.

They confirmed that sixteen teams worked over two days before they found the 16-year-old. Ryan Smith, a spokesperson for Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue, said: “We used as many resources as we could.”

Esther was found on the same trail she was hiking with her group two days after she went missing.

According to CNN affiliate CityNews 1130, RCMP Staff Sgt. Keith Schendel said: “Her parents had still been there from the day’s rescue efforts – they’ve been up there fairly continuously for the last couple of days – and she walked pretty much right into their arms.”

Esther was praised for her preparedness by the rescue team, with Ryan Smith saying at a press conference: “She did have food and water. She did appear to stop and then think, orientate herself and planned accordingly.”

RCMP Superintendent Wendy Mehat said: “She’s healthy, she’s happy, she is with family. That’s the best possible outcome for us.
