A teen who was accidentally invited 'Grandma's' for Thanksgiving is now spending his sixth holiday with her.

Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench met in 2016 after Wanda accidentally invited Hinton over for Thanksgiving dinner in a text message that was meant for her grandson.

After the initial confusion was cleared up, Wanda extended the invitation to Hinton again, and the two have been celebrating Thanksgiving together for the past six years.

This year to mark the occasion, Hinton shared a picture of himself with Dench, 64, and his girlfriend Mikaela at the gathering.

Hinton, who is now 22, shared the picture on Instagram with the caption "Thanksgiving 2021, 6 years strong" alongside photos from their previous five celebrations.

While there was some initial confusion, the two shared selfies of each other in a text chain that went viral years ago, and continues to reemerge every year on thanksgiving.

It turned out that Wanda's grandson had changed her number, but when Hinton asked if he could still come over for dinner, she texted back, "Of course you can. That's what grandmas do … feed everyone".

Thus the teenager and the grandma began to form an unlikely friendship, with Hinton previously telling PEOPLE that "it was so unexpected, but she was just so sweet about it".

"It was a reminder that there are still some good people left in this world," he said. "She is a very sweet lady… I just got a vibe from her that made me feel at home."

Since then, the two have met every Thanksgiving, including last year, when Wanda's husband Lonnie died of Covid-19 in April 2020.
