Suspicious package found at high school in Englewood was a pipe bomb.

A suspicious package found at a high school field in Englewood has been investigated and deemed to be “an active explosive device,” police said.

The pipe bomb was found at about 4 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Englewood Alternative High School, 300 W. Chenango Ave., on the football field, police said in a news release.

The Arapahoe County Bomb Squad took possession of the device and the area was cleared by investigators. No other devices were found.

On Thursday police announced that the bomb squad has deemed the discovery an active explosive device that has since been rendered safe.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 303-761-7410.
