Boris Johnson has announced shops, gyms and pubs will re-open from December 2 but a harsher tiered system has been set.

Regions will be placed into the tiers designed to combat the spread of Covid-19 on Thursday.

The Prime Minister said: "I can't say that Christmas will be normal this year…but what we don't want to to throw caution to the wind."

Mr Johnson declared a "six week surge in testing" to allow people to meet others who have likewise tested negative.

In his announcement the Prime Minister praised the work of scientists creating vaccines and confirmed the government has ordered 100 million doses of the Oxford drug.
