Schools on lockdown as teenage boy stabbed twice in horror daylight attack

Two schools have been placed on lockdown and a manhunt is under way after a teenager was stabbed near two schools in Darlington on Monday.

Parents are believed to have been instructed to come and collect their children from Wyvern School and West Park Academy, with locals urged to stay safe while making those journeys in the wake of the traumatic incident.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing incident on Collingsway, in Darlington.

Officers and the ambulance attended the incident at around 12.45pm today, Durham Constabulary confirmed.

A spokesperson for Durham Police said: "Police were alerted to reports of a serious assault on Collingsway, in Darlington at approximately 12.45pm this afternoon (June 21).

"Colleagues from the ambulance service reported a stabbing incident and officers attended the scene.

"The victim, a male in his mid-teens was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, suffering from stab wounds.

"A suspect has been identified and a police operation is underway to make an arrest.

"It is believed the suspect and victim are known to each other."

Local councillors posted a warning on Facebook over the serious incident saying Wyvern School was put on lockdown.

It was also reported that West Park Academy, in Darlington, was placed in the same security measures, reports ChronicleLive.
