Royal insiders have brutal new nickname for ‘celebrities’ Harry and Meghan

Those in "royal circles" have reportedly given Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a new nickname – and it's not complimentary.

Several royal nicknames have come to light down the years. Prince Philip would call the Queen 'cabbage', according to royal biographer Robert Lacey. Prince William has revealed how Princess Diana called him 'wombat'.

"I can't get rid of it now. It began when I was two," he told NBC's Matt Lauer in 2007.

Unfortunately for Harry and Meghan, their moniker is not as light-hearted.

Daily Mail diarist Richard Eden writes that they have been nicknamed "the Kardashians" due to their appetite for "accepting awards for themselves, talking about themselves, doing programmes about themselves" and embracing the "celebrity lifestyle".

His comments appear to be in reference to what a royal insider previously told The Times. The source also said the nickname had come about because "they want all the attention they can possibly get".

Royal commentator Daniela Elser, writing for news.com.au, described this as a "low point" three years on from Harry and Meghan's departure from the Royal Family.

She also reckons the nickname shows they have become exactly what "the Royal Family fears most".

She wrote: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have failed to make themselves into leaders or serious people who are respected and listened to by even more serious people. They have become that which the Royal Family fears the most – celebrities. (And celebrities whose star is definitely on the fritz.)

"Add it all up – image over substance, trading their dignity and privacy for cash, airing family squabbles for the cameras – and Harry and Meghan have a startling lot in common with Kris Jenner and her tribe."
