Prison officer wore ‘trousers leaving little to imagination during lag affair’

A glam prison officer alleged to have had phone sex with a lag wore "skin-tight trousers" instead of her prison-issue uniform, a court has heard.

Ruth Shmylo, of Pontypridd, allegedly had an “inappropriate relationship” with drug dealer Harri Pullen for five months while working at HMP Parc in Bridgend, South Wales.

On Wednesday, the trial for misconduct in a public office at Cardiff Crown Court, heard the pair allegedly got together after Pullen slipped her his number on a piece of paper, which is said to have sparked the intimate phone call. Ms Shmylo denies misconduct in a public office.

The pair were accused of being in a relationship between December 2020 to April 2021. Ms Shmylo left the job after she failed to pass her probation.

Dan Hayman, the head of security, told the court Ms Shmylo opted to not wear a prison-issue uniform and came into work with “skin-tight trousers” which “left very little to the imagination”, reports the Telegraph.

Matthew Cobbe, prosecuting, told the court there had been a staggering 20 “intelligence reports” that had been filed from January and April 2021. These reports featured claims over the officer's behaviour and her clothing items.

Mr Hayman told the court counter-corruption officers had questioned Ms Shmylo over the concerns, had asked the officer if it would be more appropriate to wear bottoms that “were a little larger and not quite so fitting”.

He said: “The concern was Ms Shmylo was wearing trousers that she had purchased outside of the uniform supply process which were exceptionally fitted and not considered appropriate.”

"There is a large cohort of male prisoners and a young female officer or any officer wearing inappropriate clothing is something that we would challenge – especially trousers that are that fitted and leave very little to the imagination.

"There were other trousers available but she was not happy with how they fell on her body or how they looked.”

The trial continues.
