A dog-loving pensioner was left covered in blood after her elderly rescue pet was mauled to death in broad daylight.
Annette, 60, was collecting her post with her beloved terrier, Roxy, on New Year’s Day when every pet-owners worst nightmare came true.
A pair of vicious stray dogs roaming the streets spotted her 14-year-old rescue and pinned her down.
The Australian Gold Coast pensioner could barely stand to watch as her dog’s stomach was slashed open and ribs broken.
Neighbours desperately tried to intervene but ultimately it was too late.
Bec Jones, Annette’s daughter, told Daily Mail Australia: “Mum was standing out the front of her house and Roxy was under her feet and two dogs come and grabbed her.
“They had lock-jaw on her had her pinned down and broke her ribs.
“The boys across the street couldn't get the dogs off her. They had to grab sticks and poles out of the skip.”
Following the brutal attack, Annette was left traumatised and covered in her beloved dog’s blood.
Roxy was left in devastating pain and yelped whenever somebody tried to touch her.
She had to be put down by a local vets due to the severity of her wounds.
Roxy was Annette’s companion dog and never left her side.
Annette, who recently had her home flooded and had to bin everything she owns, has been left devastated, her daughter said.
A GoFundMe has been set up in the wake of the attack, which is being investigated by Gold Coast City Council.
So far well-wishers has raised $1,000 for Annette, towards a $2,000 target.
