An evil mum took money from a wealthy paedophile to let him abuse her 15-year-old daughter and take nude photos of the girl on his yacht, a court in the United States has heard.

William Wellington Hooper has now been convicted of conspiracy to produce child sex abuse images and the enticement of a child.

The 53-year-old first lured the teen with promises of helping her become a model, but later groomed her into letting him take "numerous" nude photographs, prosecutors claimed.

Hooper, who founded a successful oyster business, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years to life when he is sentenced at the beginning of next year.

Mathews County Sheriff's Office in Virginia said in a statement: "We would like to acknowledge justice for the victims… who cooperated with information which was paramount in ridding this community of a dangerous predator."

The court heard Hooper first approached the girl about becoming a model in April of last year.

His co-conspirator – who the Charlotte Observer has identified as the victim's mother – then allegedly proceeded to take nude photos of the teen and send them to Hooper.

The woman, who has pleaded guilty to producing child abuse images, also allegedly drove the girl to Hooper's yacht.

There, he coerced her into taking more nude photos and performing a sex act.

He later paid the underage girl $50 (£39) according to reports.

The young victim is now said to be receiving counselling after her shocking ordeal.

Before his conviction, Hooper's lawyer claimed his client was "a victim".

They reportedly said: "He has done absolutely nothing wrong.

"I've seen zero evidence that Mr Hooper committed any crime whatsoever."

After his arrest, police searched Hooper's yacht and found evidence of "graphic material," according to local reports.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in February 2021.

The girl's mother will reportedly be sentenced next month.
