A "sweet" model was butchered by her ex as he stabbed her to death in an attack he later claimed was "self-defence", according to police.
Cops say Lucio Magno Quadros, 22, stabbed his former partner, 20-year-old model Geordana Natally Sales Farias, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 1, in the Brazilian city of Ananindeua.
But when questioned by cops, Quadros argued he had acted in "legitimate defence" and didn't even know his victim was dead.
He said Farias was holding the fatal knife and had stabbed him first before he managed to take it himself and stab her three times.
He afterwards returned home without offering his assistance.
The police do not believe his version of events and suspect him of femicide.
They also noted that the victim had filed a police report against him for violence in May and that she had taken out a restraining order against him, which was still in place at the time of the crime.
According to her relatives, Geordana was stabbed to death as she made her way home after spending the night at her ex's house.
They report that he was her first boyfriend and the pair frequently broke up and reconciled.
Cops were called after residents were woken up by dogs barking and notified relatives after finding and recognising the bloodied model's slumped body.
The victim's aunt told news site G1: "We didn't know he threatened her. She didn't open up to us. It's an irreparable loss.
"She was a good, sweet girl. Everyone liked her. No one ever heard of anyone disliking her. She had many dreams and plans of becoming a professional model, of going to university."
The investigation is ongoing.
It's the latest in a wave of heartbreaking gun violence in Brazil.
In July, two twin sisters, both aged 18, were brutally executed whilst the murderer recorded the killings on an Instagram live stream.

Identified locally as Amália Alves and Amanda Alves, the young women’s lifeless bodies were found just hours after they were killed on the side of a road behind a housing complex in Pacajus, Ceará.
Video footage captured the sisters’ harrowing final moments as they knelt next to each other on the dirty road.
Local news reported that it was because the sisters knew “too much” about incidents involving local drug dealers.
