Met Office thunderstorm warning: Alerts issued as lightning storms batter UK – new charts

Met Office weather forecasters have extended warnings over the UK this week, with more stormy weather on the horizon likely to impact the western coast. The new warnings, in place for four regions, will last until tomorrow, but bring in conditions such as strong wind, hail and lightning.

Met Office thunderstorm warnings are now in place over the western UK.

The agency issued a slew of new warnings this morning, extending from the south coast up to Scotland.

Another warning is also in place for Northern Ireland, with all commencing from this afternoon and ending by Thursday.

The warning states: “Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out across many parts of the UK on Tuesday afternoon. “

“Some places will miss them, but where they do occur they will bring torrential downpours with 25 to 35 mm rain falling in an hour and perhaps 40 to 50 mm in 2 to 3 hours in one or two places.

“Lightning and hail will be additional hazards. These showers and thunderstorms will only slowly die out through the evening, but may persist across northwest England, southwest Scotland and perhaps eastern Northern Ireland into the early hours of Wednesday morning.”
