Man killed in shooting on Interstate 70; suspect fled in stolen truck and caused crash, police say

A man was shot and killed Sunday night on Interstate 70 in Denver by a suspect who fled the scene in a stolen truck and caused a multi-vehicle crash, Denver police said Monday.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting and crash at 11 p.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the Northfield/Quebec exit, according to a news release from the department. Investigators believe a suspect shot at another vehicle, striking the man driving the vehicle. The gunshot victim was transported to a hospital where he later died.

The shooting suspect was then immediately involved in a crash on the highway. The suspect and other occupants of the stolen silver Dodge truck fled the scene on foot before police could arrest them.

Nobody else was injured in the incident, according to police.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the case to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

The Denver Officer of the Medical Examiner will release the shooting victim’s identity.
