Man, 28, may go blind after iPhone explodes in his face during family meal
July 13, 2022
A 28-year-old farmer may go blind after his iPhone 8 randomly exploded in his face during a family meal, when it wasn't even charging.
Leandro Brasil Silva only purchased the device three months ago on an online store, and now faces losing sight in his right eye, according to his family.
The young man can only see with around 60% clarity in his other eye, his sister added.

Niviane Brasil Silva, 30, the victim's sister, said family members were meeting for Sunday lunch with their mother when the incident happened in Pedra Branca, a municipality in Ceará, in Northeastern Brazil.
"We were in the living room and he was in the kitchen, just using his cell phone, when we heard a loud noise and he was shouting saying that his eye had burst," Niviane said.
"When we got there, the device was on fire at the foot of the door. We hurriedly washed his eye and we hit the hospital."
Leandro was taken to a local hospital before being transferred 300km away to a private clinic in Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceará, on the coast.

"There they gave him an anaesthesia because he was feeling a lot of pain and felt him home. They said he needs an evaluation to know if he needs surgery and we are trying one in Pedra Branca", the sister told Brazilian media.
The family, she said, is now racing against time to get adequate care before Leandro loses his sight.
"He can't see from his right eye and his left eye has 60%. We're running all over the region looking for an ophthalmologist, because in the hospital here they don't have it," she said.
"We're also seeing with the optics, running from one to the other to find out if a doctor sees us."
