Kate Middleton made a broody confession as she held a baby on a visit to Newmarket racecourse with Prince William.

Onlookers suggested Duke of Cambridge started getting twitchy when his wife took great delight in holding four-month Norah, whose mother Marianne Provoost had travelled over from the Netherlands.

Stealing the show after they turned up for the first-ever Cambridgeshire County Day, the pair chatted with members of the public, but the short exchange recorded on video inevitably got tongues wagging, reports the Mirror.

Ms Provoost could be heard telling the Duchess: “Enjoy your day and enjoy your children.”

William watched on nearby, before tapping Kate on the arm, saying: “It’s time to go.”

The moment was not lost on Twitter users, with one saying: “It’s making William a little nervous. He’s nervous with three. Another one might tip him over the edge.”

Another added: “Poor William. He gets very nervous when Catherine starts getting broody.”

The Cambridges also played a bit of football and drank beer at the day of festivities, which were part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Thousands of people attended the day, which included racing, performances and more than 100 stalls.

Kate, dressed in a patterned dress and nude wedges, was seen kicking a football at a target in front of impressed crowds.

Before she gave it a bash, she told the crowd it would be difficult as she was “wearing wedges”.

After taking a shot, the Duchess shook the hand of a little lad who had been playing before her and said: “You did better than I did.”

Not to be outdone by his wife, Prince William also bravely gave a ball a whack, despite donning a navy suit and suede shoes.

The pair were then seen sipping a beer to cool off as they spoke to several stall holders, and also sampled chocolate.

One wag on Twitter queried the location of the Cambridgeshire County Day, writing: “Apparently today is the first Cambridgeshire County Day with celebrations taking place at Newmarket racecourse. That could have been really awkward given most of it isn’t actually in Cambridgeshire, but I’m sure that someone thought of that.”
