Kate and William have ‘turned tables’ on Meghan and Harry with YouTube launch

Kate Middleton and Prince William have turned turned the tables on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry by “owning” social media with their YouTube launch, royal experts have claimed.

The Cambridges launched their new YouTube channel last week with a slick promotional video which showed a move away from the traditional tight-lipped approach of the Royal Family.

But it was previously the Sussexes who were seen as the propounders of social media while they were in the Royal Family, until their Sussex Royal account was shut down.

Speaking on Us Weekly's Royally Us podcast, royal expert Christina Garibaldi said that Kate and William are "killing it" on social media right now while he co-host Molly Mulshine said that the "tables have turned".

Christine said she liked the new approach from the Cambridges.

She said: “It seems that they are a little bit more relatable in a certain sense which I love and I think that’s what the monarchy and the Royal Family needs, for us to be able to relate to them a little bit more. So I think this is great."

It was a view shared on the podcast by Molly.

“It shows that they are evolving beyond the precedent that was set in the last century which was keeping the monarchy at an arm’s length,” said Molly. “They are being so much more open and it’s a cool approach,”

Christina then asked whether the Cambridges are looking to copy Harry and Meghan or just go their own way with media coverage.

She said: “Of course there are always going to be comparisons to what Harry and Meghan are doing.

"Do you think they are taking a page out of Harry and Meghan’s book or do you think this is just the next step in what they want to do?"

Molly replied: “If you asked me a year and a half ago I would have said absolutely but now Meghan and Harry haven’t even had Instagram for a year so it seems like William and Kate are the ones that are owning social media."

Christine agreed: "That’s so true they’ve been killing it with all their content … their 10 year anniversary photos that they’ve just released, the video of the family and now the YouTube channel. They are really stepping up their social media game."

Molly said that only a return of Meghan's blog The Tig could see the battle even out.

She said: "Yes the tables have turned.

"Maybe if Meghan relaunches The Tig we will be able to see more of a comparison but right now it seems like social media is the Cambridges’ game.”
