Drunk mum vaping on plane flipped on Ryanair crew in ‘worst abuse ever seen’

A raging woman who'd been on the beers 'all day' lost it at Ryanair cabin crew who asked her to stop vaping on the plane.

Jessica Horne, 33, was headed home from holiday in the Spanish Canary Island of Fuerteventura when she exploded into the worst rant a prosecutor 'had ever seen’.

On landing at Manchester Airport last year, the mum was confronted by police officers who she went on to attack on the way to custody.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard how Horne was moved to various seats around the plane after trying to touch and kiss a Ryanair staff member before unleashing her vile tirade of abuse.

Horne, of Briercliffe, Burnley, admitted entering an aircraft when drunk, racially aggravated harassment and two offences of assaulting a police officer, but was handed a suspended sentence.

The court heard that on March 29 last year, Horne, her partner and her child boarded a Ryanair flight from Fuerteventura to Manchester. She had been drinking beer ‘all day’ at the resort’, it was said.

During the flight she was asked to stop vaping as it was ‘forbidden’. “The cabin crew member had to tell her five times to stop vaping for her to eventually stop,” Ms Boocock said.

“He took her to the back of the plane to calm her down and one passenger offered her his seat so she could sit away from her family, as her partner was also complaining about her behaviour.

“The defendant then touched the flight attendant and tried to kiss him on the cheek.”

She continued harassing the man when he removed her vape by taking hold of his jacket, stroking his name tag and saying his name which made him feel uncomfortable.

Things then escalated, with Horne using racist slurs towards the steward, who is of Filipino origin.

“She called him a ‘f****** c***k’, a ‘c****y b*****d’ and told him to ‘go back home’,” Ms Boocock said.

“The steward asked the captain to redirect the flight, but the captain said it would not be possible. The defendant then fell asleep 14 minutes before landing.”

In his statement to the police, the steward said it was ‘the worst incident I have ever had from a passenger’.

Horne was arrested upon landing, and was abusive to police. She was still ‘relatively intoxicated’, calling officers “horrible, nasty b*****ds” and was that drunk she was unable to put on her shoes.

As she was being escorted away she spat at one officer, though it fortunately did not land on him. Later, whilst being transferred to police custody, she scratched another officer with her acrylic nails, and punched her in the face.

She was left with a cut to her eye and a deep scratch mark down her cheek. In a statement, she said her confidence had been knocked, adding that she was ‘just doing her job’.

Sentencing, the judge, Recorder Imran Shafi KC said: “Your conduct that day was disgraceful. You took the conscious decision to drink to excess, even purchasing a bottle of Grey Goose vodka.”

Horne, of Granville Street, was handed an 18 month jail term which was suspended for two years. She was also ordered to complete a 90 day rehabilitation order of alcohol abatement and monitoring.

She was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation.
