Dramatic moment lightning strikes house as thunderstorms sweep the UK

Dramatic footage has shown lightning striking a house as the scorching UK heatwave comes to a wet and windy end.

Heavy rain and storms have started sweeping across the country today following record-breaking temperatures recently.

Donna Tizzard, from Wrexham, Wales, was filming such a thunderstorm outside her house yesterday evening when the lightning strikes.

The footage begins with an overcast scene and rain droplets covering the window that Donna is looking out of.

Suddenly, a huge lightning bolt flashes in the sky, hitting a house in the distance.

“Oh my God,” someone behind the camera screams in terror. “What the f***?”

Firefighters confirmed they were called to an incident in the area just after 8pm, report North Wales Live.

A spokesman for the fire service said that they could not find any fire or damage and classed the call as a "false alarm with good intent".

The service received multiple calls for help in the Wrexham region last night after the storm brought heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Two months of rain is expected to fall today with storm warnings continuing for the rest of the week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow storm warning for all of England and some of Scotland.

The recent hot weather also means there is a risk of flash floods – with the bone-dry ground failing to absorb rainfall.

There are five alerts for possible flooding in areas around Birmingham, while 17 remain across Scotland.

It comes as footage emerged yesterday of torrential rain and hail hitting Twickenham.
