‘Doomsday’ mum accused of killing kids may have killed ex-husband, family says
October 12, 2021
The brother of 'Doomsday' mother Lori Vallow, who is accused of killing her two children, said that she also killed her third husband, new documents reveal.
Last week, the Chandler Police Department in Arizona released computer files, text messages, police reports and interviews from their investigation, with claims that Lori Vallow Daybell conspired with her now-dead brother, Alex Cox, to kill her third husband, Joseph Ryan.
Joseph Ryan had purportedly died of a heart attack in 2018.
"Lori and Alex planned to kill Joe," her other brother, Adam Cox, previously told detectives, according to documents obtained by Deseret News.
"They planned out how they were going to kill Joe, and Al was going to Taser him, throw him in the trunk and take him out to a field and shoot him and then bury him. Well, Al went to Taser him and it didn’t work and Joe called the cops and Al went to jail."
A close friend told investigators that Lori 'hired her brother to kill Joe because of stuff he did to them.'
Joseph died of a heart attack in April 2018, with Alex dying of blood clots to his lungs in December 2019 and coroners ruled both deaths as being due to natural causes.
However, an investigation into the circumstances of Alex's death has since reopened.
Adam Cox continued in his interview with investigators: "There's got to be somewhere where they talked this through because Lori and Alex planned Joe's death.
"I'm telling you there is something wrong about Lori and Alex and this belief they have. Lori thinks death is nothing… The family — cousins and uncles — they understand the history with Lori, Alex, and Lori's ex-husbands. There is a whole pattern of things there."

Alex Cox was convicted of assault after he attacked Joseph Ryan with a taser in a Texas parking lot back in 2007, in what is believed to have been a failed murder plot. Ryan survived.
Before his eventual 'natural' death, Joseph Ryan and Lori were locked in a custody battle in which she accused him of sexually assaulting their daughter, Tylee Ryan, and her older son, Colby Ryan, who later died themselves, with Lori charged in connection with their deaths.
She is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, alongside her current husband Chad Daybell, 53.
The bodies of the children were found in June 2020 buried in the garden of his Idaho home. Lori's children were, 7-year-old Joshua 'JJ' Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan.
The couple are also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of Chad's previous wife, Tammy Daybell, 49.
Lori is also charged in Arizona with conspiring to kill her former estranged husband, Charles Vallow, 62, with the help of her now-deceased brother, Alex Cox.
Charles was shot dead by Lori's brother Alex 'in self defense' on July 11, 2019. This was during a custody dispute between Lori and her-then husband Charles over their son, Joshua.
Chad has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Lori has not yet entered a plea as she's being treated at a mental health facility because a judge has determined that she's not yet competent to stand trial, the Daily Mail reported.
She was a member of the doomsday cult Preparing a People, an organisation that says its mission is to “help prepare the people of this earth for the second coming of Jesus Christ.”
Daybell had penned and self-published more than 25 doomsday books for Mormon audiences and had spoken at several Preparing a People events. He and Vallow had also appeared together on an episode of the organisation's podcast.
