JD Sports has confirmed it has pulled out of talks about a possible rescue of Debenhams following the collapse of Arcadia, putting 12,000 jobs at risk at the department store.

The sports fashion retail company was the last remaining bidder for Debenhams, which is in administration.

Until the end of last week it looked as those it was closing in on a deal, however the recent collapse of retail giant Arcadia is understood to have impacted JD Sports' decision not to move forward.

Debenhams has already cut about 6,500 jobs since May, and now has 12,000 workers, all of whom could be made redundant if a buyer is not found.
