Dad’s horror as video shows son, 16, being beaten by security guard at funfair

This is the shocking moment a funfair security guard punching a 16-year-old boy in front of a shocked crowd.

Kenzie Watkins was at Farrar's Funfair on Herringthorpe Playing Fields on Sunday (May 21) when he was attacked.

Video taken by an onlooker shows the moment a man in a security guard uniform lands a series of punches on Kenzie, who was wearing a red and white striped top.

The commotion saw other men gathering around and a second security guard stepped in to pull the guard away.

Another staff waved his hand to disperse the crowd as they broke up the fight.

Kenzie's dad, Gareth, was shocked when he got a phone call from his son saying he had been attacked.

The 43-year-old told Yorkshire Live: "He said one of the security guards had thrown punches at him and he didn't know why.

"I obviously went straight over to get him and to ask what had gone on.

"When I got down there, other people and parents said they didn't know why it had escalated like that.

"I rang the police to come down and they went into the fair to try and find out more about what had happened but the guy had gone.

"They couldn't find the security guard, he just disappeared when they turned up."

South Yorkshire Police were aware of the incident and a spokesperson said: "Police were called at 6.06pm on Sunday, May 21, to reports of a disturbance at Herringthorpe Playing Fields in Rotherham.

"Upon arrival, officers received a further report that a teenager had been assaulted.

"At this time, it is not thought that the teenager suffered serious injuries. Enquiries are ongoing."

Farrar's Funfair also responded and confirmed that the matter "was in the hands of the police".
