Brit mum who left UK to join ISIS rebrands herself as fashion influencer

Tareena Shakil, the first British woman prosecuted for joining ISIS, is now a fashion influencer.

Rebranding herself as a glamorous style icon, Shakil now posts on Instagram as "That girl Tam Tam", under the handle @tareena.shakil, reports The Mirror.

Shakil has gained hundreds of Instagram followers from her fashion content, posting outfit snaps taken all over the world.

Shakil frequently tags big brands such as Versace and Bershka, attempting to grow her influence and describing her account as a place for "style" and "motivation".

One pouting snap is captioned: “She a bad b****, she ain’t average.”

On another she writes: “How you so elegant and so gang, gang, gang?”

The British mother originally left Birmingham for Syria in 2014 with her 14-month-old son after signing up to terrorist group ISIS aged 26.

Abandoning her life as a healthcare worker to join the murderous terror organisation, Shakil lived in a house with other women waiting to be wed to foreign fighters.

Shakil grew unhappy in the house, and "chose to leave when ISIS were at their peak", escaping to Turkey.

Returning to the UK in 2015, she was sentenced to six years and undertook a deradicalisation programme.

During Shakil's trial, Birmingham Crown Court were shown images of the ex-Jihadi showing off an AK-47, and pictures of herself and her toddler wearing ISIS-branded clothing.

She was jailed for four years for ISIS membership, having a further two years slapped on to her sentence for encouraging acts of terror, after encouraging others to join ISIS on social media.

Shakil has reinvented herself since getting out in 2019, describing her de-radicalisation as “a long journey”.

She told The Mirror: “I’ve learned from my mistakes and have served my punishment.

“I don’t seek to be an influencer or blogger, I seek to show people you can make it through hard times even when it may seem impossible.”
