BBC Weather: Britons brace for sunny weekend as temperatures soar back to summer levels

BBC Weather forecaster Matt Taylor claimed many in the country will finally be able to enjoy some sunshine this weekend with temperatures gradually returning to summer levels. However, for north-western areas of the UK, showers will continue and winds may reach gale force on Saturday and Sunday. He said: “Many of the showers we see today will fade away. One or two will continue in the north and the west but with some clearer skies around, certainly across the south, temperatures look cool, 7 to 8 degrees.

“Cooler they have been for the past few nights, some rural spots getting well down to mid-single figures.

“So the weekend does begin on a fresher note than the last few days, but a lot of sunshine around into your Saturday.

“There will be a few showers to the west, in Scotland, Northern Ireland, north-west England and north Wales in particular.

“But much of the country will stay dry.”

He added: “Into Sunday, the southern half of the country, there will be a bit more sunshine around and it starts to feel warmer.

“But through the day those winds will be picking up in Northern Ireland, northern and western Scotland they could reach gale force by the time the sun is out and there will be the return of some rain at times.

“Still dry towards the south-east corner and temperatures back up a little bit, up to 24C in the south-east corner.”

Britain is geared up for a return of warmer and sunnier weather.

Net weather meteorologist, Terry Scholey said: “The UK has not had a decent weekend of weather since the end of May.”

He explained as pressure begins to rise on Friday, “things will improve on Saturday with increasingly fine, warmer conditions particularly over England and Wales by Sunday”.

Craig Snell, Met Office meteorologist said: “As we go through the weekend especially things will start to turn a bit dryer and brighter for most of us.

“In that sunshine that will allow the temperatures to begin to rise.”

“Quite a cloudy and damp start to the day across Eastern parts but some sunshine will begin to work its way in from the West.”

The Met Office have said the wet and muggy weather produced by Storm Edouard will leave parts of the UK by Friday.

But the weekend will bring an end to the effects of the tropical storm.
