Almost 60 UK flood warnings issued by Met Office as Brits face more bad weather

    A worrying 56 flood alerts and a yellow weather warning have been issued in England in a pretty grim period for weather.

    Flooding has already seen a river burst its banks leaving a flock of 30 sheep stranded on raised ground near Dorchester, Dorset, after the River Frome overflowed with torrential rain.

    The Met Office has issued 56 flood alerts and four flood warnings – where flooding is expected across the south from Climping, West Sussex to Upper Frome at Maiden Newton in Dorset.

    Another flood warning was issued for North Bank Road which sits next to the River Nene, east of Peterborough.

    The Met Office has also given yellow weather warning across southeast England, including in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex which are especially likely to be affected.

    Warnings were issued at 12pm today (27 November), reaming in place until the end of the day.

    The Met Office anticipates 10 to 20mm of rainfall, rising to 30mm in some areas in the evening with a significantly higher flood risk.

    Forecasters have warned that public transport if likely to be affected and the chance of floods in homes and businesses cannot be ruled out.

    Big showers are also expected today across Northern Ireland large parts of Scotland while strong winds will hit some areas of the UK over a particularly grim ending to the last Sunday of November.

    The west and south east of the UK will will also see heavy rain tomorrow (28 November), though on Tuesday most of the UK will see brighter conditions with less wind.

    Meanwhile Met Office forecaster Craig Snell spoke of the possibility of snowfall in the coming weeks, saying snow was more likely to fall in the new year.

    "At the moment, there is no real strong signals of anything significant snowfall-wise for the next couple of weeks, at least," he said.
