Tony Miklinski told Express.co.uk that with the current margins on whether the Scottish public is pro or against Scottish independence, it will not take a huge number of voters to change their minds to end Nicola Sturgeon’s independence dream. The Scottish Conservative councillor stated that if the SNP are sufficiently tarnished by the ongoing inquiry, voters that are on the fence regarding independence will side against Ms Sturgeon’s party.
Mr Miklinski said: “It’s the old business, the Bravehearts, the hardcore nationalists will vote for Nicola Sturgeon if she is condemned.
“No matter what she did, they would vote for her.
“But then we do not need the Bravehearts, they are there no matter what.
“What we need is the people that live on the margin between supporting independence or not.
“The margins are down in the latest polls to around 4 percent, 52 to 48 was the latest when I saw.”
The Scottish Tory continued: “So we are only talking about 5-10 percent of the voting population, we are not talking about huge numbers here.
“The people who are thinking about this and have respected the way she has looked after Scotland during the pandemic, if her performance is tarnished to a sufficient degree then they are the ones who will say perhaps our confidence in the SNP is misplaced.
“Perhaps our confidence in Nicola Sturgeon is misplaced and we better think again and perhaps not vote for independence.”
Nicola Sturgeon has 'cynical approach' to Indyref2 says expert
Mr Miklinski also told Express.co.uk that Nicola Sturgeon sees everything through the lens of securing a second vote, dubbed Indyref2.
He added the debate on Scottish independence must shift towards facts rather than hysteria and passion.
The Scottish Conservative said: “There is nothing that Nicola Sturgeon does that doesn’t have the lens of Scottish independence in place.
“They analyse every situation to see how they can further the independence message.

“You can see that from everything she does from Covid to Brexit.
“One minute she is saying any deal is better than no deal, that was when she thought we were not going to get a deal, then we get a deal and she votes against it, it is cynical, manipulative and brazen.”
Mr Miklinski added: “We really do need to get back and I hope we will shortly, into fully understanding what it is that an independence referendum would mean and what independence would mean.
“We [need to] start talking about the facts, not the hysteria and the passion that the nationalists generate which passes for a coherent argument on things like economics.”
