Winners And Losers of Free Agency

The NBA Free Agency period of the offseason is one of the most hectic and unpredictable periods in all of sports; just ask Mark Cuban. Championships can be one and dynasties can be taken away all with one signing or one trade. While millions of dollars are thrown from team to team, players have extremely tough decisions ahead of them: Is this a good enough offer? Can I win here? Can my family and I live in this area? These questions are why teams like Miami, Los Angeles, and San Antonio routinely win out in free agency, while other teams struggle to improve. We take a look at the winners and losers of 2015 free agency, starting with the losers:

  1. 5. Portland Trail Blazers

Its actually hard to put Portland on this list, as they have rebounded very well since losing LaMarcus Aldridge. The thing is, it isn’t just Aldridge they lost. Damian Lillard is the only remaining starter from last year’s team as Aldridge, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, and Robin Lopez have all left Portland. The extension Lillard received may be looked at as an overpay, but this team needs someone to rally around and Lillard is fit for the job. They picked up some solid big men in Mason Plumlee and Noah Vonleh. But at the end of the day, they will likely miss the playoffs. Losing Aldridge is a crushing blow to this team.
